Program Description
Students in the Clinical Investigation program at University of Massachusetts Medical School - Worcester acquire excellent writing and oral presentation skills through formal classroom work as well as by participating in several oral presentations.
Trainees completing the MSCI Program acquire the necessary skills to successfully
- Design, conduct, and analyze the results of clinical investigations at the individual and population-wide level.
- Design and analyze the results of studies that provide insights into the molecular pathophysiology of disease.
Trainees are grounded in the principles of clinical investigation with a flexible multidisciplinary focus providing curriculum tailored to their needs and interests as young researchers aspiring to become successful independent clinical investigators.
Our clinical investigation research program is primarily intended for individuals already trained in the medical sciences as well as others with relevant scientific backgrounds and experiences who desire further training in research design and methodology. This includes physicians, nurses, dentists, medical students, and other health care professionals.

General requirements
- Applicants must be a UMass Chan-affiliated MD, DO, DVM, DNP, PharmD, or PhD or MD student. Members of underrepresented groups in the sciences and medicine are particularly encouraged to apply.
- While no minimum grade point average is required for entry into the program, applicants must have successfully completed medical or graduate school from an accredited institution, with demonstrated superior academic performance.
- Submitted application and non refundable $80 fee
- Unofficial transcripts from any college attended
- A personal statement of one to two pages describing your: educational expectations, career aspirations, research experience, any special qualifications you may have, research areas of interest, potential mentors at UMass Medical School
- Resume or CV
- Three letters of recommendation from individuals who are able to assess past academic performance, research experience, and prospective success in graduate school
